Trade War Retaliation By Canada Begins With 10-25% Tariffs On 229 U.S. Products!

Canada is not backing down from the trade fight started by Donald Trump imposing tariffs on $12.6 billion worth of U.S. products – the same value as Trump’s controversial steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and the European Union – on July 1. Here is Canada’s list of 229 products that will be affected.

This version of the original article by Daniel Wolfe has been edited for length (…) and clarity ([ ]) by munKNEE.com to provide a fast & easy read

The list of targeted products includes steel and aluminum, as well as an assortment of other goods such as strawberry jam, printed or illustrated postcards, sleeping bags, and ballpoint pens. The selection is likely not random; both Mexico and the EU carefully crafted their retaliatory tariffs to inflict the most pain on the US, while not hurting their own consumers.

Here is Canada’s list:

What rankles Canadians the most is the total mischaracterization of the trade relationship and the complete denial by the Trump Administration as to the facts of the bilateral relationship. Let’s look at the overall situation and then some specific sectors that have been singled out in the cross-border trade disputes.

It continues to be baffling beyond words how Canada has ended up being among the Trump administration’s “most wanted” trade villains. In a client note, Doug Porter, the chief economist at the Bank of Montreal, set aside his usual analysis for a “rant” that pretty much demolished the argument that Canada is the trade villain Trump makes us out to be.

As an economist who studies international trade, I thought it’d be instructive to explore the trade relationships the U.S. has with each partner to show just how important they are – and what would be the consequences of a full-blown trade war.

5. Canada Slapping Tariffs On $12.8B Of US Goods — Here Are the States That Stand To Lose the Most

Canada isn’t taking President Donald Trump’s decision to hit the country with steel and aluminum tariffs lying down. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will impose retaliatory tariffs on $12.8 billion worth of US goods in response to Trump’s metals tariffs effective July 1 and will stay in place until the US removes the steel and aluminum restrictions. . The biggest losers from the US-Canada trade fight are industrial states in the Midwest.
